Blastomycosis, caused by the agents of Blastomyces dermatitidis, is a systemic fungal disease, especially dogs and humans, but it is also known to infect cats, wolves and horses. Blastomyces dermatitidis is a dimorphic soil fungus, Mississippi, Missouri and Ohio River, and found the U.S. mid-Atlantic and the Canadian provinces of Quebec, Manitoba and Ontario.1 an ecological niche has not yet been clearly characterized, but most agree that the necessary moisture , sandy, acidic soil rich in organic matter and water in the vicinity. Infection occurs primarily through inhalation.
